Today, November 16th is Indiana Day. This day is considered a legal holiday in the state of Indiana; it celebrates the state’s admission into the Union in 1816.

Now, Indiana Day is all about being a Hoosier. You ask my friends, “What is a Hoosier”. Let me explain, my first thought always goes to Indiana University-Hoosiers. Indiana is a basketball state and Indiana University basketball never disappoints in either men’s or women’s college basketball. Indiana is definitely a basketball state for all ages. This state has had the most McDonald’s All-American basketball players than any other state since 1977. Have you seen the movie “Hoosiers” about the Milan High School basketball team from 1925; it is a classic. If you get the chance be sure to watch it, absolutely a wonderful movie and reflects on the state well and the basketball hysteria that continues here every year.

The real definition of a Hoosier according to wikipedia.org refers to a person who lives in Indiana, because Indiana is known as the Hoosier State. So, what is the “Hoosier State”? The “Hoosier State” is a nickname for Indiana, which was the original homestead of many pioneers. “Indiana” means “Indian land, beautiful land we have here. 🌽

Indiana is in the Great Lakes and Midwestern areas of the U.S. and is mostly flat land. Indiana is also known for limestone, quarries, ice cream producers, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway/500, Brickyard-400, and many more exciting individuals, places, and items to explore.

Come to Indiana, it is a great place to live, work, and play basketball in the heartland of the Midwest. 🏀
