In 1979 coach took a turn from a little leather store to a world-wide design house with the efforts of Lew Frankfort. Mr. Frankfort continues to be the CEO of Coach today and really made the company the more affordable luxury brand. Making the Coach purses a more affordable luxury was key to the success of building Coach and turning it into a well-known fashion brand that continues today.
In 1988, Coach initiated a design line for both men and women watches. They also moved into Tokyo and the tremendous sales in Japanese countries still have a considerable revenue for the company. In 1992 Coach entered the classic outerwear market. Coach raincoat anyone?
In 1993 Reed Krakoff was hired as a designer to grow and expand the company. Reed brought his own vision to Coach; he trained under another well know designer/company Tommy Hilfiger. He introduced vibrant colors and trendy styles to Coach moving away from the classic look. He is also responsible for the wristlet, wow! He also designed wallets, straps, and cell phone cases.
