“Days of our Lives” aired their first episode on this date 57 years ago. Oh, those Horton’s in Salem. Who grew up with their grandmothers or mothers watching soap operas? It was a time when women did not work out of the home as much and daytime television was a daytime treat. I am sure it was a way of ecaping day-to-day chaos.

I grew up in a home were my mother never missed her soap operas; maybe multi-tasking with such chores as ironing or sewing. When I would visit my grandmother in the country, as you recall one of my favorite childhood places; we would string green beans watching “General Hospital“. Now, I loved “General Hospital” still do and “The Young and Restless”. But “General Hospital” was definitely a treat for me; it was time with my grandmother. My Mom did not watch this daytime show, so it was something special. I loved those daily happenings in a hospital setting, doctors, nurses, patients, lovers, you name it (probably not age appropriate, but it was so intriguing).

Fast-forward to today, I am a Practice Administrator in a large Heathcare Hospital System, and I love the work! Who knew healthcare administration would be my life-time career long ago when I was just fascinated with daytime drama in a hospital setting.
